Why the ArcEquine?

We didn’t invent microcurrent therapy or the body’s extraordinary ability to heal itself. What we did was reimagine it – creating ArcEquine, the world’s first wearable microcurrent device designed specifically for horses. What is the ArcEquine? 

The ArcEquine is a wearable health-tech device for pain management and tissue repair. It utilises microcurrent therapy – a type of electrotherapy – and is applied through the skin via carbon rubber pads, which are attached to the integrated leg strap. Although worn on the leg, as microcurrent therapy has a whole-body (systemic) effect, it helps with problems anywhere in the horse’s body. The ArcEquine has four three-hour long automated programmes, each with a different objective. Introducing 4.6 million pulses into the body in a single treatment. The ArcEquine requires no specialist training, which means you can have your finger on the pulse of cutting-edge healthcare immediately. Despite the complexity of our technology, it’s just 1 finger, 2 buttons, 4 programmes and thousands of happy customers.

What is Microcurrent therapy? 

Microcurrent therapy is a type of electrotherapy that has been widely studied since the 1970’s. It involves the application of very low-level (micro) electrical currents into the body in order to help the body heal itself. These currents are similar to the natural electrical signals that horses bodies use to communicate between cells, and are so small that they are not felt by the horse receiving the treatment.

Research has demonstrated that microcurrent can help the body reduce inflammation and its associated pain while increasing its own natural tissue repair and regeneration mechanisms. This can result in accelerated tissue repair and healing rates.

How it works

Mimicking Natural Cellular Activity: The microcurrents used in this therapy mimic the body’s own electrical signals. This helps to stimulate the cells and tissues in the body, encouraging them to repair and regenerate. By applying these small currents, microcurrent therapy can enhance cellular activity. This means it can boost the production of energy within cells, known as ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is essential for cell repair and growth.

Promoting Healing: The therapy can help reduce inflammation, improve blood circulation, and promote the healing of tissues. It is often used for pain management, wound healing, and even cosmetic treatments like reducing wrinkles and improving skin texture.

Targeted AND Whole-body Treatment: Microcurrent therapy has both localised and whole-body effects, which contributes to its many benefits. Meaning it does not need to be worn near the site of injury/illness to have an effect.

What is ATP

Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) is the molecule used by all living cells to provide a constant supply of energy which enables them to carry out all necessary cellular functions. ATP is formed from an Adenosine molecule with three phosphate molecules bonded to it, hence the ‘tri’ in the name. The energy stored in ATP is released when the bond holding the third phosphate molecule to the rest of the ATP molecule is broken. The product of this process is Adenosine DiPhosphate (ADP) and a separate phosphate molecule (Pi).

During cellular respiration, the bond between this phosphate and the ADP is re-made, thus reforming a molecule of ATP.  In this way, ATP in our cells is constantly being broken down and re-formed in order to provide them with an unending essential energy source.

Microcurrent therapy vs TENS

A common question, but really there is no such thing as Microcurrent versus TENS. They are very different, except for the fact that they both use electricity. Microcurrent speaks an entirely different language to the body because it uses a current 1,000 times lower, which is why you can’t feel our devices. TENS blocks pain, whereas the ArcEquine treats the cause of the pain- the inflammation.

That’s not to say that TENS aren’t effective, as anyone in considerable pain will tell you, but take a TENS machine off and the pain returns as the same underlying issue causing the pain remains. In fact, in a race against pain, a TENS machine would no doubt be faster than Microcurrent.

This is not how Microcurrent deals with pain. Microcurrent aims to help the body repair tissue where inflammation is based, and inflammation is how the body perceives pain. As an injury is repaired, the pain subsides due to the injury getting better, not a temporary block. We are offering a longer term solution to chronic pain.
